From the name of a river flowing between the countries of Jordan and Israel. The river's name in Hebrew is Yarden, and it is derived from yarad meaning "descend" or "flow down". John the Baptist baptized Jesus Christ in its waters, and it was adopted as a personal name after crusaders brought back water from the river to baptize their children.
You could take the line of liking flowwing water, andthat you had heard the crusader story and liked the connection with your English past.

The school project is to find out why YOU gave him his name and the meaning behind it...You answered it, no need to make up anything from a book...It just because you liked it. Its the truth and not a made up story....

Why isn't it good enough to say you liked it!! Maybe you need to think about why you liked it and how you chose it from all of the ones you'll have thought of. It shows that you chose a name that was special to you, making him special. The real problem is the lack of thought that the teacher put into this project!!

Just have him say that when you looked at him, you knew right away he was a "Jordan" and then tell them what the name means.

Had you liked the name because of a famous baseball player?
It is also a country.
Look up the meaning and turn it into a reading /learning exercise.
