Drink it neat in a ballon shaped glass. There are many opinions but real afficionadoes tend not to warm the glass as this concentrates all the alcohol aromas at the expense of some of the more subtle tastes.

Affordable is a pretty vague word - if you're Bill Gates then a Frapin Hors d'Age would certainly be your breakfast brandy whilst to some people any sort of booze is a jump too far. In general, for your money you'll get a better Calvados (apple brandy) or armagnac than Cognac, as Cognac is an internationally recognised brand.

I've also tasted South African brandy which was far from ropey.

If you're convinced that Cognac is the way to go then for my money the Hennessy, Remy and Hine VS's are pretty much of a muchness.

Don't know where you live but in the UK both Sainsburys and Waitrose do very very good own-brand brandies.

Good luck and happy boozin.

The best way to drink brandy is in a warm snifter. If you are going to drink it, sip it, it is called a cordial, meaning that it is like a desert after a fine meal. It is not meant to be a shooter. If you like something sweet, B & B (Benedictine and Brandy) is a good choice. But if you want to go for it there are fine cognacs that will destroy your wallet but are like fine chocolates. Aged and delicious.

i suppose the best way would be after a good meal, followed by desert. then enjoy the brandy with a pipe full of fine tobacco or a quality cigar.
christian bros. is good, although its fairly expensive i think

snifter...and hold the snifter where the stem meets the bottom of the brandy in the glass...your hand will naturally warm the snifter...this will help you better appreciate the brandy...unless is cheap brandy...then slug from the bottle...woo-hoo!!

In my "20s" we used to do shots of Brandy, with beer chaser's!! To me now, I can't do any alcohol, and I take Milk Thistle to restore my liver, from the on & off years of drinking, and prefer to stay away from it all together!! And believe me, I dont miss the Hang-over's one bit, either!!! But, you can do shots, or chase them with just about anything!! Smile!!!!
