I think the answer to that question is different for different people, but my husband was a real Army success story. He was a long-haired biker when I married, and he is a Sergeant Major now, and in the middle of all sorts of awesome things.
The one thing about the Army is that is is truly non-discriminatory. They don't care who you are or where you came from, and they don't care about your religion or your race. If you work hard, you will do well.
One caveat is that once upon a time, people actually joined the Army thinking they could do a job that would never deploy. There are no jobs like that in today's Army. The battlefield has changed, and the Army had to change with it. If you join, you will most likely deploy within a few months.
Good luck, no matter what you decide, or even if this was a rhetorical question, but the Army does really make you stronger both physically and mentally.

Joining the Army is a good idea,
if you think what your government is doing the right thing but if you just want some real cool action join the army and checkout just how its just like a football game it will be a thrill you wont soon forget.
being inside the wire wont protect anyone over there. The game begun and were in the second half,
Alquida is down a few points but has a real solid game plan, we have the ball on their 10 yard line (pure red zone) we may win some day but untill then,
please send more body bags

nobody can really tell you that. you've just got to weigh all the pro's and con's yourself. on one hand, it's a very secure job, lots of benefits. on the other hand, you have to be separated for very long periods of time from your loved ones, and it's very likely that you will be serving in combat. if you decide that this is what you want to do, then our support is behind you, but it's important for you to not go into this blindly, you need to realize exactly what you're getting yourself into.

Well the marines have more fun. But I spent 20 in the Air Force and I loved it.

Yes, if more people join now we may just avoid a draft in five years.

Yes; if you can't get a job, have a choice between jail or Army, love to shoot guns (big guns), feel immortal, need to get away from Detroit -
or worst of all can't afford high speed Internet.

on paper it is, but I would suggest going with the Navy, Air Force, or Marine Corps.

There was a time when I would have said "no". Currently with the younger generation being what they are, I would say,"yes, it builds character".
