Many people believe that the UV rays of tanning beds are harmless. This is not true. Tanning lamps emit UVA and frequently emit a lot of UVB also. Both UVA and UVB can cause serious skin damage, and both contribute to formation of skin cancers. Because of these dangers, health experts advise people to avoid sunlamps for tanning.

I believe that the ACS is saying that tanning beds are as harmful as the sun. They are not a "healthier" substitute.

Mary- what is sad is that young girls don't realize that the models and stars all use spray-on tans- i know because my husband works in the entertainment industry. They would never subject their skin to harmful rays from sun or tanning beds. And, yes- it's easy not to worry when you're 25, but it will suck when you are 45 with cancer and feel like you are still too young to die.

Have you looked at all the fashion magazines at the news stands. These poor teenage girls are being taught that this is how they need to look. With glowing perfect skin and not an ounce of body fat.
If they only knew the damage that they are doing to their skin. What most people don't know is that it takes 10 years for the damage to show up. We need to better educate our teens on this issue.

Vanity. Most young folks think they are indestructible. So, the idea of cancer seems outlandish. Not just that, you can tan quicker in a tanning bed, avoid the pains of sun burn, and avoid the whole finding an area to lay down in at a crowded beach dilemma. If you want to be honest, eating any food that has been processed has a lot of free radicals in it, which are particles of atoms just bouncing around every where. Science indicates that free radicals are dangerous to living tissue and can encourage cancer as well. Breathing the Air in most cities will kill a few brain cells. My point? Everything is threat nowadays. You cant live in a cave, eat only beans you grow from filtered water, and breathe filtered air every second of the day. So live your life in a way that makes you happy. Because you can't be afraid to lose something you aren't guaranteed to have tomorrow.

I enjoy my tanning bed. Yes, I bought one. I don't think there is a problem if used properly. Some people over use them. Too much of anything can be bad for you. I heard a recent study showed that tanning releases some type of endorphines in the skin that make you feel good, therefore it can be addictive. I'm not worried about cancer. If I were, cigarettes would be a greater problem for me.

I ensue to think of that individuals merely think of it rather is not going to ensue to them. Like "oh it won't ensue to me. Iv purely completed it some situations." Or some locate it as a habit. they think of it rather is the terrific thank you to get tan while rather they could get a sprig tan. Or the sunlight yet that is merely as undesirable.

So your saying that its better to tan in the sun with more pollution, more cancers, and harmful toxins that are flying in the air?

likely because of misinformation (believing it is safer than the sun), HABIT, or inability to see future effects of current practices.~
