If I have a cold, is it possible to pick up another strain of virus while my body is fighting the current one? If not, why? I have been sick now on and off for over 2 months and I can't figure out if its the same thing getting better & worse all the time, or if my body is just being attacked by new virus's because my immune system is weak.

The adeno virus is the most common virus that causes cold lke symptoms. There are hundreds and thousands of them out there. Your body is in a constant state of fighting things off and it is not unlikely to encounter another strain of the adenovirus. Best bet to fight these things off is to have the strongest immune system possible. Good diet, healthy lifestyle, decreased stress, and washing hands etc. Signs and symptoms of most adenoviruses don't last that long so perhaps you've encountered a particularly virulent strain, or encountered another one in the meantime, or your immune system is a little on the weak side.

Hope this helps

there are multiple viruses that cause colds, and usually you contract more than one to cause symptoms. The more colds you "catch" while young, the fewer you have as you get older because your body has made immunities to the more common viruses.
I personally use Zicam nasal swabs, I use one daily for prophylaxis and I have not had a cold in four years.
Learn to wash your hands frequently and keep them away from your face as this is how 99.9% of colds are contracted.
You may also want to consider that there is an allergic component to your continuing illness and symptoms, environmental allergies often leave us wide open to viruses.

Yes, you can have more than one viral infection simultaneously. Two months of infection does not sound like a simple infection. You're immune system should've fought the infection much sooner.
Just be more precocious....make sure you don't have some more chronic viral infection such as Hepatitis, HIV or something worse.
Not to scare you .....please see your MD and check your blood work.
