Traditionally, I would say in general Candians are proud to be part of the Commonwealth and regard the Queen with some affection. Her Majesty's likeness can be seen on our money, stamps and in many government buildings- personally, I think most Canadains appreciate it as a reminder of our history and roots and how we are not like America (which indeed, is a cultural sensitivity to us Canadians).

That being said, however - The Great Britain of today - the "Tony Blair" Britain, does NOT have the same level of endearment. Also, in recent decades the more traditional trend of immigrants from Commonwealth countries (UK, West Indies, India, Hong Kong, etc) is being eclipsed by immigrants that don't share a Commonwealth background.

I like her and she is also titled The Queen of Canada. I don't think people generally give her a lot of thought even though she is on our money. I know it is kind of old fashioned but I like having a Queen. Especially one from a Royal family with such a grand history. I also like our connections to England, and to France because it gives us an interesting cultural identity.

I have also heard that the Queen and Her Mother really like, or liked in the cause of the Queen Mum, Canada.

I just have to add that I got to see her coming out of Westminster Abbey when I was in London last year. And I saw Charles and Diana when I was a little girl when they were touring Canada.

I am from Margate (stop laughing) and have lived in Canada for 30 years.

Unless people are from a British heritage, I would say that most Canadians don't have much of an opinion on the British royal family.

You must remember that Canada is an extremely culturally diverse country.

Now, on the other hand....try asking what they think of Coronation Street ! We love Cory !!!!

hi

i'm canadian and a loyal monarchist. i think our british ties and ancestory are some of canada's greatest legacies and an vital part of out national identity.

we don't say "queen of england". we say "the queen" "our queen" or "queen of canada".

i'm into british culture, it's more fun than the very scary american culture which is too close for comfort sometimes!
