i upgraded to microsoft 7 and now have lost my favorites can i get them back?

You favorites are not lost. They are in the Gold Star on the left. The green "+" overlaying the gold star is how you add to your favorites.

If you don't like the way your Menu Bar looks now you can try this tweak. It will put your File>Edit>.....buttons back on top.
