I have a 5th grader and her bedtime is 9:30. Sometimes she'll go to bed earlier than that. When she was in 4th grade, she had to be in bed no later than 9:15 (I've always done where my kids can stay up later and later every year)

I have a 3rd, 4th and 5th grader so we start at 8:00 for all them but by the time the hand out all the hugs, kisses and goodnites, let the dogs out and brush their teeth its usually 8:30 when lights go out. My youngest has ADHD and wont crawl out of bed until 7:30/7:45, but the other two are up ready to go at 6:30 which makes morning less stressful having them ready when the little one gets up. No more fights in the bathroom with the toothpaste if ya know what I mean!! I can focus on just him which makes for a smoother transition.

I have a first grader and one in kindergarten...they go to bed by 8:30. I think 9:00 or 9:30 would be a good bed time for a fourth grader.

I found this off the Nemours Foundation--Kids Health site:
"Kids ages 6 to 9 need about 10 hours of sleep a night. Bedtime difficulties can arise at this age from a child's need for private time with parents, without siblings around. Try to make a little private time just before bedtime and use it to share confidences and have small discussions, which will also prepare your child for sleep.
Children ages 10 to 12 need a little over 9 hours of shuteye a night. But it's up to parents to judge the exact amount of rest their children need and see that they're in bed in time for sufficient sleep.
Lack of sleep for kids can cause irritable or hyper types of behavior and can also make a condition like attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) worse."
So, what time your child goes to bed at night depends on what time he gets up in the morning.:-)

9pm. When he goes to sleep any later, I can't get him up in the morning. If your son goes to bed later and has no problem getting up in the morning, I don't see a problem with 9:30 or 9:45pm. Each child is different and should be treated accordingly. If your son gets up on time and does homework and does well in school, if he's in the middle of a show or video game, I wouldn't make him stop right at a certain time, I don't with my 10 yr. old. Problem is most days after my husband and I get up at 5:30am and work 10-12 hrs. a day, we're the ones ready for bed at 9pm!!! We don't allow him to stay up while we are asleep.

Sounds like your son wants to stay up as late as he can!!
You can tell him that most kids in South Korea DON'T have a set bedtime. BUT!!!! They usually go to school from 8am to 2 pm, THEN go to 2 or 3 private schools (language, music, tae kwon do, etc) for another 3 hours! AND they go to school for 1/2 day on Saturday!
By the time a student is in high school, students are going to bed at midnight or 1 am and getting up at 5 or 6am as they are studying for their college entrance exams. They usually go to school ALL DAY (7 am to 4 or 5 pm) on Saturdays and from 7am until 10 pm on weekdays.

sure. I actually have 4 little ones between the a at the same time as of 9 and 12 (4th, fifth & sixth graders). there is really not a good purchase of distinction in those a at the same time as - all of them like an same type of events.
