my labrador has lost her fur on her l;egs and on parts of her body. She has got bald patches and thin fur on alot of her body but on her head and back her fur is thick and shiney. She is not scratching and doesn't seem in any discomfort, she eats well and seems healthy in herself. Is there anything I can do to help her fur grow back. She is 18 months old.

I am glad to hear, she is healthy otherwise .

This could be a sign of hormone imbalance ;
Or possibly an allergy .
Or even an unseasonal moult .

Do not delay , consult your Vet
It may be something quite simple, to treat,
Only ,He /she will be able to reassure you .

but i would not hazard a guess,
as to what could be wrong with her .

Hope she will be in full coat again soon

Even your vet wouldn't attempt to do a diagnosis from a description; they need to see the dog and do tests. And we're not vets!
She needs tests to figure out what the problem is, and then she needs the right treatment.
Its illegal for anyone other than a vet to diagnose an illness in an animal, or prescribe treatment. The reason is its too easy for well meaning people to get it wrong. Its useless using flea shampoo if its a thyroid problem.
Please, take her to see the vet as soon as possible, this is probably treatable but it sounds like it has been going on for a while. And some diseases are transmissible to people.

to second bonnie g on this... She probably scratched the hair off while she had mites. If she is still scratching her ears a lot, you should try Frontline or Revolution, or some other topical ear mite treatment. Both of these products are safe for a kitten over 8 weeks of age. If she is going to be outside at all, you should keep her on the product for life, every 30 days, to prevent future ear mite infections, and other parasites (frontline prevents flea and tick infestations).

My lab did the same thing. I took her to the vet and they did a blood test. She has thyroid disease. She was put on medication and her fur is coming back in. This may not be the diagnosis of your dog. But it is a possibility.

Some thyroid disorders can be cured, but many require lifetime treatment. Learn here https://tr.im/hmf9H
For example, sometimes early stage thyroid cancer can be cured by surgery to remove the thyroid gland, but you will need to take thyroid hormone medication afterwards for the rest of your life. Goiters can also be surgically removed and do not always recur after surgery. In most cases, thyroid disorders need treatment over a lifetime. However, with treatment most people with thyroid disorders can live normal, healthy lives.

take her to the vet she proberly has a skin condition or it could be flees...

try a medicated shampoo from the pet shop, but if you get the diagnosis wrong it can make matters worse. a vet will be able to take a scraping of the skin and have it tested.

good luck!

sounds like a parasite such as mange or could be thyroid problem, I would frontline her as this helps with demodectic mange and scabies and fleas, check her food see if she isnt intolerant to something, if this doesnt help then take her to a vet for a skin scrape, I would suspect it is a pasarite though.

Your dog need to be vet checked. It can be anything from skin irritation to thyroid disease. Only a vet can help you and your dog. People here cant.

She might have an allegy, wash her in "herbal shampoo wash" for(dogs & puppies) 2-3 times a week. Alittle bit of garlic wouldn't hurt in her diet.
