Try using Delsym cough syrup, I can actually get my 5 y/o to take it and you only need it every 12 hours. For in-between get some cough drops, make yourself either hot tea or hot lemon w/ honey or lightly sweetened w/sugar, or try Popsicles. You will need the hot to break-up the mucous and the cold to soothe a sore throat.

Chicken broth or chicken noodle soup is always helpful, too.

Coughing, in general is your body's attempt to get rid of junk that is in danger of damaging it. I have had good results with a cool mist humidifier into which I put a pint of the cheap Hydrogen peroxide, and then run the humidifier in the bedroom while I sleep. This helps soften the junk in the lungs, and helps to disinfect the lungs while the body works to clear up the infection from the other side. Hydrogen peroxide is something your body makes to combat infection, so you are not introducing a foreign element, but increasing your body's natural defense mechanism. You can get a cough suppressant, but that just turns off your body's defense mechanism (not a good idea)

I'm sorry to hear that!
Well, if you don't want to go into antibiotic medicines, just drink a lot of water, maybe some juice but water would be better to keep all your systems working and flushing out the bad stuff. Herbal tea, like peppermint or chamomile will make your calmer

Try a cough suppressant, a hot shower, a humidifier, or, if you do not have a humidifier put a big kettle of water on the stove and boil it, and breathe in the steam.

Yuck, that's no fun!

Ideally, you would see a doctor: Whatever you have sounds vicious. But until you can go, try steam, zinc lozenges, hot lemon and honey, or cough syrup.

Good luck!
