i have tried right click on the task bar select properties clicking start menu clicking on customize clicking on the advanced tab but i have not found "run" option in the list.

thanks to all the answers but now i have discovered that the administration settings are disabled. can someone help in deactiving the restrictions on the computer

You might also try pressing the Windows Key and "R". That's the XP shortcut to bring up the Run Program dialog box. If that doesn't work, your system administrator might have it disabled.

Right Click Start Bar, Properties

Start Menu ------- Customise

then Advanced

Run is very close to the bottom of the advanced list.

Two good tips, but Jsmccall has the spot on solution.
I would only go for the administrator option if you are on a network.

Run is found when you left click on Start. It's just above Turn Off or Log Off. If you don't have it, Windows is not properly installed.
