I was reading something. An I gues they'll help pay for your college loans. Which is a plus. I guess what I read you have to be something like an E-4. Sounds like a good deal. But I want to help. But there is so many jobs in my major. I don't know what to choose. An thinking the military might help set a path for me to follow. Thanks.

sometimes you'll get in as an E-2 or E-3 instead of E-0 or E-1. (those are pay/rank scales - in case you don't know)
College may also help you to get a better job, like fixing tanks or journalism instead of infantry.

I liked being in the military and I did a lot of fun things but I was also enlisted during Desert Storm, which was nowhere near as horrid and violent as Iraq is. I would never join the military right now.

If you are serious in joining after college. Get your degree! Then ensure you speak to a recruiter, choose lets say Navy and Air Force. Speak with them both and play them as you would a car salesman. Let them know that you think for example the Air force is pitching a better bargain then they are! Also, make sure you are going in as an officer. It is NOT guaranteed that you can get to officer training after coming in enlisted. It is a hard program to get into after that. Not to mention the money is way better then enlisted side. Also get a tour of the base or post that is nearby. Grab someone from both sides that is active duty. Ask them about their job and how they like it! Ask them would they do something differently. Ask what they love and what they hate! Ask them to be bitterly honest!!! Enlisted vs Officer. WEll the war will continue on the inside. But once you make your decision it will be hard if not impossible to change it. You need to know what "job" you are going for. This makes a difference in money as well. There are jobs that have great bonuses just for signing on. If you are not offered a job that suites you, walk away. You are stuck with that job. You MAY have opportunities to change but that is not a guarantee. Even if the recruiter says "You can change if you dont like it" that is NOT full truth!!! Be aware. These guys are on a quota based system. They are rated in their job. Their job is filling jobs that are low manned. Keep your wits about you. They need people and will do about anything for ya!!! Now is not too early to check it out. They may discuss with you about the "DEP" Delayed enlistment program. Be sure this is what you want to do before agreeing.
Do not forget the options of guard and reserves. These are decent options and let you decide later if you want to go into the active duty side a little later on. Right now they deploy alot but it would give you a taste of military lifestyle. You still have the same plight, officer or enlisted but this also deserves some thought.
HOpe that helps ya

Any education will help you in the military and if you want to do a specific thing they'll pay for you attend school. They also now I believe, will pay for you to attend school immediately. You'll be enlisted but you won't do duty until you've finished the schooling.

The best thing to do is to get an idea of what you wish to do and then find out what you need to do it. See which branch of the armed forces can better offer you that path, they'll compete. Talk to a recruiter, but have some info inhand and be specific about what you want, they might have a tendency to steer you where you're needed. If you have back up info and are adamant about what you want then they will do their best to accommodate you.

My husband is 27 years military, I'd say he likes it :) Not only that, they trained him for his lifetime, he can now command very high wages in civilian life. Good luck!

Get your degree and become an Officer. I am currently an officer in the Army and I love it. I treat my enlisted very well but a lot of people do not. Being enlisted in the military is tough until you reach the E-6 range. Before that you are usually treated like ****. Become an officer. During your 2nd LT time its a little tough but it gets better. Your rank does not define you or get you respect. You need to earn it by being a good leader and taking care of your men. People think that an officer's job is easy because his men will take care of him. THe truth is that a true office takes care of his men not the other way around.

Yes, you make E-4 either very fast, or right from the start. It also counts for a quite a bit as a senior NCO. I have a degree in Management, and it has actually helped me out. They will expect things from you, and you will have more responsibilities assuming you are a competent person and good with people. Its really a good thing to have a degree in the NCO corps, and the more non-coms that have one the better it is for the orginization..

You should try to enter in the "College Option" program so that you will go to OCS after completing Basic Training. You better be in shape for OCS because it is very physically demanding. Good luck.... I'll see you in the Middle East...
