Heavens no! The tomatoes are exactly what you want to season your cast iron. Each time my mother would get a new cast iron pot or pan (she wouldn't use anything else), she would always make spagetti sauce or something else with lots of tomatoes, tomato juice or tomato sauce in it. I've even seen her boil just plain tomato juice in her new pot, (then throw the juice away) to season the pot so it would be ready to use. Another thing about cast iron is, if you cook with gas, there will be a gas build up on your cast iron that cannot be scrubbed away. Just toss the pot into an open fire, such as a fire place for a while, and your pan will come out as clean as new. I do this when I burn branches and twigs during Spring cleanup. It works.

Tomatoes are fine in cast iron. As said, just don't store the sauce in the cast iron. The scare you might be thinking of is copper pans. Now those you shouldn't cook tomatoes in.

I have used tomatoes in my cast iron, but when it cooks for a long time you can taste the iron in the food.Once the pan has been seasoned well, all you do is wipe the pan and dry on the stove to keep the pan seasoned.I put a fire under mine Then when water is gone out, put in my oven up-side down---never has rusted on me...

absolutely. just clean it out and put olive oil in the pan after cleaning and stick in the oven ( oven off) and the oil will keep the iron in excellent condition.. but no the tom. will not eat at the iron for only being in the a short time. i would not recomend putting the tom. in there and leaving them though.

I cook for scouts, and use tomatoes in our dutch ovens all the time.
If they have been seasoned well there will be no problem. If not you might get a little extra iron in your meal, but no damage to the ovens.
