First of all, if you have osteoarthritis in both knees, I would start off with so many minutes each day and work your way up, otherwise you'll tear up your knees worse. Secondly, if you combine the walking and eat sensibly, you should also ensure that you are drinking lots of water to rehydrate yourself. Try not only eating sensibly, but eating smaller portions, but 5 times or so a day. That will help build up your metabolism. If your truly relentless about it I would say you could see a small movement on the scale within the first 5-7 days (just remember to weight yourself at the same time every day and I would only recommend once a week on the same day). Also what helped me lose weight the best was LOG it!! Keep a log and be HONEST of everything you eat. At the end of one week if you haven't lost any weight, go back and look at your log, there'll be something there to clue you in and if not, then you can adjust for next week. GOOD LUCK!!!

If you are currently doing no or little exercise you would see weight loss within a week or 2. It is recommended that we do 30minutes of exercise 3 days a week MINIMUM.
Make sure you don't over do it though, it's also best to lose weight slowly as it is more likely to stay off long term.
Drink plenty of water too.
Good luck!

Dear friend,
It is very difficult to give specific information to an individual as results vary dramatically from person to person. I have heard that moderate weight lifting in combination with aerobic exercise is more effective for fat loss than aerobics alone because muscle tissue burns more calories than other tissue.
Muscle increase=caloric burn increase.
Aerobic exercise=metabolic increase.
Sensible eating+the above=fat percentage loss, muscle percentage gain.
I have also heard:
#1) Doing your walking BEFORE breakfast then eating a sensible breakfast is more effective for weight loss than walking at other times during the day because your body has to use it's fat stores since you haven't eaten for hours and hours.
#2) Too much dieting actually makes your body want to keep fat, so caloric intake should be moderate instead of low.
#3) Zen meditation can make you happy. I know it is off topic, but everyone deserves to be happy.
Good luck, you can do it!!

As we get older the metabolism slows down. As for the bad knees water exersizes will be better for you. some places have water areobics & water jogging. It is not as strenuous on the legs ie knees.swimming is also called the perfect exersize as you use all your body.
