I've taken it for two or three periods, and I know several people who have taken it long term. On the whole the results are very positive. It's not a 'catch-all' though; some people it doesn't suit at all, and sadly they seem to be the ones with the most to say about it. The bottom line is that if it works for you it's a very good drug indeed. If it's not good for you you should know pretty quickly and move on to other options. Simple
My other half had the symptoms of her OCD pretty much sorted by a combo of Prozac and 'cognitive behavioral therapy' (CBT). How much Prozac on it's own would have helped I don't know

I've been on and off prozac since I was 22. It killed my sex drive and made me feel spaced out all the time but I guess it helped because it made all the reasons I was on it in the first place seem disconnected from me. They help the symptoms of depression but they don't help the underlying cause of it - only therapy can help with that. Antidepressants are nothing more than a mask - they're not a cure.

I used to take Prozac and found it very helpful for the 2 years I was on it, it really helped the depression, but as I get mood swings it elevated my moods a bit too much. I recently changed my anti-depressant as the doctor wanted to give me one that had more of a sedative effect, but I think that Prozac was definitely one of the best anti-depressants I've been on.

I took Prozac for years. It has few side effects (none for me)I had no ill effects at all when I went off of it. I did have bad effects when I went off of other anti-depressants. I did very well on Prozac, I didn't feel drudged at all.If I ever become depressed again I'd definitely go back on Prozac.

It is okay while you are on it, but when you come OFF it, if the problems are still there it is just like opening up the whole can of worms again.
They made me helluva thirsty, too. But you CAN drink alcohol while you are on Prozac, which is cool.
They just delay the inevitable ( whatever that is going to be) in my opinion.

Yep was on it for 10 years it takes time to get into your system, after 10 years I had some serious down time and was changed to Efexor which seems to be better but a lot depends on what works for you in your body.

U could examine in with ur dr each few weeks to work out how ur doing on the dosage and if after a lengthy time period replacing the dosage doesnt help then they could change the drug and commence over. Its a sluggish proccess to locate the right stability. good success

You can take it on your own, but it may work best with therapy. Ask your doctor who prescribed it. Every person is different. What works on one person may not work on you, vice versa. Most of the people I work with in hospitals seems to work for them. But like I said, ask your doctor because it works different with everyone.
