With proper light-blocking window treatments a deep purple will hardly seem darker than a lighter colour. Address the windows first, looking at opacity of window treatments either in the form of a black out liner or even a room-darkening roller shade installed beneath your current window treatment. Whatever you choose to cover the window should extend at least 3 inches beyond the window itself so that light is even less likely to peek in from the sides. Avoid any blinds that have small holes where the cord runs, or use a strip of thick fabric to cover these holes -- that will add a decorative touch as well as serve a purpose.

I am presuming you have a deep purple in mind, in which case carpets could be a medium-pale warm grey-beige, or a light silvery-grey depending on whether you prefer a warmer or cooler colour scheme. For a modern look, your accent colours can be either black and white or dark-chocolate brown with off-white. For a more feminine/romantic feel you can bring in some pinks or the deeper raspberry like colours. For a more classic look, keep to the neutrals and you should be able to find a shade of green (probably in the olive family) that will work well to provide splashes of interest.

Purple is a very difficult colour to work with because it is so hard to find the right colours to compliment it. If you do go for the purple, you might want to go to a paint store that has staff trained in colour consulting and allow them to help you fine-tune your choices. Good luck!

I once did my bedroom in a very deep purple, sponged with about 3 different colors of purple. It was magnificent. I added a touch of gold gilt paint here and there with a border around the room at ceiling height. My contrasting colors were in the accessories and I chose white bedding (comforter with a touch of purple in the design) I also had a lot of small pictures in gold frames. It did not feel "small" because of the dark color and I suspect that was because I kept the ceiling white. You will find that many colors compliment purple.
Be adventurous. It's only paint. If you don't like it, it won't be the end of the world and I would highly discourage you from painting only one wall. That's really boring and old fashioned.

Find yourself a color wheel and see what colors are compatible. You could shop for a new comforter and curtains first that have purple in it and then match the purple for the walls. I like green and pink with purple, but of course they'd have to be muted and the right shade. I'm not so sure how the color of the room affects sleep, but whatever floats your boat. I'd say the blackout shades that really fit the windows tight are the best answer for daytime sleep. Though freshening up and decorating a room are fun and lifts your spirits. Good luck.

Indigo blue would be perfect for carpenting.

The Aurora Borealis came to mind with your question. Go to http://www.art.com and perform that search for more inspiration from the posters and artwork there.

The green from aurora borealis used in your bed pillows and/or pillow cases would be a lovely contrast to a purple comfortor or blanket and sheets.

For some pops of color, implement some burnt orange in the way of lamps, candles, pottery or china accent pieces. I just Googled 'burnt orange lamp' and found the link below.

Sounds dreamy~Good luck!

I think plum would be a beautiful wall color! Our bedroom is currently a lighter shade of purple, so I think you have wonderful taste!

As far as other colors to use in the room........you could use complimentary colors - opposite each other on the color wheel. In this case the other color would be yellow. That might be difficult to work with if your wall color is plum.

You can use colors that are in a triad (three) adjacent (next to) each other on the color wheel.

Here are the combinations you can use if you use colors that are adjacent on the color wheel:

You could use green, blue, and purple together.
You could use blue, purple, and red together.
You could use purple red, and orange together.

The important thing is to use the same value of color throughout the room. That means if you are going to use deep purple on the walls, then you want to use deep colors throughout the room.

If you shop for your comforter and drapes first, then you will see that those who create them use color combinations from the color wheel to create their designs. They have done the work for you as far as putting together color combinations goes!

When you pick out your bedding, you can take it into a paint store and have them match the paint color to one of the colors in your comforter or drapes if you like.

Your carpet could be one from the color wheel combinations I listed, but for resale value of your home, it might help to keep things neutral.

Hope you enjoy your project!

in case you have a spacious room, then that's functional to have a loose status wall in a formidable colour. I advise you employ prosperous high priced wall paper rather of portray. The upload-ons must be a brilliant tournament to the colour. yet whilst your room is the common British room, then I advise you employ a prosperous formidable portray which will cling to cover a minimum of 50% of this one wall. It ought to additionally be a real outstanding and unique piece with good value. in case you do no longer discover something, then make your guy or woman. come across a competent fabric and staple around a physique such as you realize what I advise...

I think purple is a wonderful color!! Try not to get it too dark, though. I would suggest buying heavy blinds to help keep the light out. Good luck on the improvements!!

I love using dark plum when decorating. I also agree, you might want to start with an accent wall and then decide if you want the whole room that color.
If you want to go bold, try using chartreuse green with the plum...very dramatic.
If you want to go soothing, stay neutral with creams and taupe's.

I love purple but do you think it will be too dark? How about painting one wall (perhaps behind your bed) dark and using a dark coloured material for curtains and use blackout blinds too?
