I think Navy blue and Pink are an adorable combination--you could do the walls a soft pink and then decorate in both colors---you could use denim fabric (cheap--hello!) as curtains and bedding. You could also use soft pink t-shirt knit sheets on the crib. Buy some small pink throw rugs for the floor to break up all that dark navy. Babies'r'us online has some really cute inexpensive pink flower rugs suitable for a girl. Here's a cute idea--make some big denim "pockets" and secure them to the walls of the room here and there for storage--you can tuck blankies, stuffed toys, or even diapers in them for quick use--and they'll look cute too.
Infants see contrast best--so don't worry so much about the dark color. She might actually like the contrast a lot.
I'm jealous--I have 3 boys, youngest just turned one. I'd love to decorate a girl's nursery. Maybe I can convince my sweetie to try just once more......
Good luck and have fun! BTW--I'm a Navy Mom. My oldest is a SEAL and goes to Iraq on Jan 18th. Best of luck to you and yours.

Primary colors ( blue, red and yellow) are a great combination for a nursery, no matter the gender of the child. My kids love the brightness.

Im doing mine multi coloured, as I don't like pink (if girl) and feel babies like big, bold sparkly, bright things to hold their attention. Ive painted the double wardrobe doors, purple one side, blue the other, and the top doors green and red with yello handles, put big glowing moon lamps on the walls, put different colour small round rugs on the floor to represent stepping stones, have bright and bold coloured cushions on floor etc. It looks lovely and I can't wait for my baby to use it

carousels and carousel horses would be beautiful....or maybe porcelain dolls as I once seen a nursery done in them, border and all and the little girl was able to grow into it.
