You do have a point, but, yes, you should say it because you still received something from another person, not a vending machine. Even if you don't say "thank you", you should say something kind, like "have a good day". It's just nice to acknowledge the person providing you the service. I remember when I worked in a liquor store in college, many people would just come through and hand you money and barely even acknowledge that there was a person behind the counter (not that selling liquor is some noble endeavor that deserves the highest praise or anything, but, hey, you have to put up will a lot of drunken idiots and crappy hours and crappy bosses that don't respect you whatsoever). Anyway, it was just nice when someone made small talk. Everyone likes to feel like a person.

I think you should considering the fact that THANK YOU is simply an act of POLITENESS. More so products and services are purchased by money but rendered by people and not but it is robots. Hence the need to show politeness and kindness by being good. Even if you pay for it, you should still say THANK YOU!

Yes of course you should still say thank you. Society today is not polite, why not make someone's day!

Yes. You aren't saying thank you for the product you just purchased, but rather for the service you just received.

Yes, it's common courtesy as they are still providing you with customer service which I hope is polite.

If the person serves something\ does some work for you, you thank them. Best way to find out would be to wait and see if they say thanks to you. If they don't, you probably have to say it.

It depends on what the service was. If the clerk/waitress/etc has been courteous and helpful, definitely.
