ALL animals entering the UK MUST go through the Quarantine process. Unless they have a 'Pet Passport' for which there are strict requirements. It takes at least 8 months to obtain one and travel because of the rabies inoculations.
The amount of time in Quarantine varies for different animals. It will be at least 2 weeks and up to 6 months.
You are more than welcome to spend time with your animal within the confines of the quarantine area.
If you are so desperate to get this particular breed of dog, you will be willing to go through this.
Have you tried all sources in the UK for the breed? Try www.epups.co.uk they have breeders all round the country with lots of different breeds.
A note of warning though -- Do Not Try To Smuggle Or Sneak An Animal Into The UK.
The punishments are rather severe. And the risk to British pets and wildlife is not worth it.
As a note,- The UK is a rabies free country , there are some other countries that have not had a rabies case in a long time BUT they are connected to other countries so the animals can travel between them easily. As an island, The UK is harder for 99% of animals that can carry the disease to get here.
The UK has strict Quarantine laws which have kept our island free of this very nasty disease.

The puppy needs to be 3 months old and micro chipped before it's first Rabies injection. Then the pup must give a rabies free blood sample one month from the injection (4 months old).
Then you must have another clear blood sample 6 months from the results of the first sample (10 Months) before you can enter the UK, using a pet passport. Alternatively put the dog into quarantine or find a breeder in the UK.

You will need a pet passport to bring the puppy in to the UK without having to put it in quarantine. It will require a rabies jab and microchipping and certification by a registered vet in Italy etc etc. It will take about 6 months to sort it all out so you will need to plan well ahead if you really want to go down this route.

If I don't remember wrong, the UK is a rabies free country and cause of that have rather strict laws.
If Italy is rabies free as well, it should probably ease things a little bit though.

Your area is known to have more strict quarentine laws than here in the states. If I were to take my pet over to meet you I'd have to quarenting for up to 6 months before I could take her around the UK. If I were you, I'd contact any local or state government health office because they'll know for sure. Good luck.

you either have to have a pet passport or it goes in quarantine.
The law is very strict on this and its why we do not have rabies in this country.
Quarantine is cruel 6 months in kennels and very very expensive.
The pet passport takes 6 months to get because of the rabies jabs
