28:15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. 17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.

Free will,we as man are made of flesh and the angels and other beings are spirit. All can rebel as more angels than Lucifer have fallen.Their punishment is to never be forgiven and never to re enter paradise for lack of a better term.Man has the gift of forgiveness from the Creator and can repent of sin if done so before death,I imagine. If you are really interested in the fallen angels I have read a book named The Book of Enoch and the fallen angels, good reading. Also the book named The Cave of Treasures was very interesting to read and all can be read on-line.

Angels have no free will. They can not fight or betray god. Nor can they have true fellowship with god. It is written that Lucifer did not like the plan of god (ultimate purpose of humanity) so he rebelled with several other angels. It was not an act of free will It was an act of repulsion.
So God cast Lucifer and the other angels out.
If you take some time and study all of your faith instead of sticking to one side of it. The awakening you would have would be miraculous.

In the book of Job God gives him an example of the Laviathin an entity which he must tame. Also in the book of Daniel Gods messanger talks about a "Prince of Persia" that held him up and that eventually, another angel had to come and free him up to give Daniel the message 21 days later and that he had to return to the fight. This shows that yes Angels have free will and this also gives a great example of how some prayers are answered and others, that may be the will of God, may take a life time to come to pass. God may have wanted one thing but as soon as you give something free will it can rebel. God takes risks for the sole purpose of Love, wow you gotta love Him!!

I believe dean's answer is the closest to the truth. I just need to add: the reason Lucifer rebelled was....his vanity! He thought he was the most beautiful angel in heaven. Actually...I think the Bible says in fact he was...then it all went to his head...he became arrorgant...and God cast him down to earth. And yes..I think 1/3 of the angels followed him.

Christ that is a good question.

I can't believe I have never thought about that.

Or do angels have free will too?

Is that whole angels not having free will from a movie?

The bible says that after Satan rebelled he asked the other angels who they wanted to follow. and a 1/3 of them followed Satan. And God made it so that no angels can again fall, or repent, they were locked in at that moment.

In Islam we believe he was from the jinn.

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
"And (remember) when We said to the angels: “Prostrate yourselves unto Adam.” So they prostrated themselves except Iblees (Satan). He was one of the jinn; he disobeyed the Command of his Lord. Will you then take him (Iblees) and his offspring as protectors and helpers rather than Me while they are enemies to you? What an evil is the exchange for the Zaalimoon (polytheists, and wrongdoers, etc).” [al-Kahf 18:50]

2. Allaah stated that He created the jinn from fire, as He says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And the jinn, We created aforetime from the smokeless flame of fire” [al-Hijr 15:27]

“And the jinn He created from a smokeless flame of fire” [al-Rahmaan 55:15]

Angels dont have free will but humans and jinn do.

There is no scripture that says angels ARE different from humans by NOT having free will. Satan the Devil used his free will to mislead Adam & Eve. He also used it to convince other angels to follow HIM instead of God. They too used their free will.

The angels have free will, that is how Lucifer rebelled. We have free will and sometimes, we rebel.
