By strengthening your abdominal muscles you take pressure off of your back. You see your spine is holding you up and by strengthening your abs and muscles in that area you relieve pressure from your spine.

Let me give you a better example:
If you weigh 100lbs each time you take a step your foot experiences 3 Times its weight (in pressure). When running 10 times its weight(in pressure). That means your putting 1000lbs of pressure each step when you go running. The impact of that is cushioned by guess what? Your muscles and spine. By the time it gets to your spine its less then 3 or 10 as a multiplier, however the fact remains if you had "core" strength, then that factor is decreased significantly. Thus alleviating all sorts of problems for you.

Oh and the chicks dig it!

Believe it or not every one has already got that dreamed of six pack unfortunately most are unseen due to excessive body weight!!
Your six pack(your words) is part of a whole group of muscles that make up your core. Your core strength is vital to everything else that you do from walking to playing competetive sports so the saying ' only as strong as the weakest link' is oh so true in this case.Within the core is the lower back muscles 'erector spinea' and how many people do you know that have had a bad back? Do you get my drift..

stregtheing your abs, which is part of your core musculature will not only help with your six pack but will help strengthen your back. But don't limit yourself to simple situps, focus on obliques and transverse abdominal muscles. Use a physio ball along with a medicine ball. That will also help build great balance and coordination as well.

well if you carry on doing sit up you will have a stronger stomach so if you should bump it in any way or get hit there you will be able to take it a lot more, also as you get older, I'm not sure if you noticed, it become more difficult to get out of bed or stand up from a chair if you have strong stomach muscles this will become easier.

It can also help with back problems if you work on your back too, or it could be bad for your back.

push ups do more then strengthen your arms.. they also strengthen and tone the abs, shoulders, chest and back... and variations of push ups help tone various parts of the chest, arms, shoulders and back.... its a great core exercise..

besides being esthetically pleasing... six pack abs help support your back and other muscles.....Joseph Pilates dedicated his life to physical fitness and developed a highly effective system.for improving these "core" muscles... i cant find the reference now but once read that he noticed extremety injuries were higher in people who had weak core muscles... many martial arts also suppor this theory of workin inside out... children delevope head down and core out also..

so strong abs along with a strong back and chest help support your whole structure in every activity you do.

having a strong core or abs gives you better balance. I do all my lifting or training on one foot or stability ball so as i am working my arms my abs are working to stabilize me. I can tell a big difference in my balance from when i started working out to where i am now.

It is the hallmark that your body fat is in the one figure percentage and so an overall healthy body ,which is rare nowadays.

This is synonymous with a really healthy diet, lots of regular cardio and sports of the appropriate intensity & duration ,and the right supplement.

In today's world it states that one is well motivated, disciplined and has a strict lifestyle.

Keep them up as a showcase as long as you live.

Best of luck

Mean you can take a punch in the guts easily...a head is already pretty hard so that won't hurt, but if you don't have much muscle in your stomach it going to hurt when you get hit there.

Not suggesting you should go out looking for a fight though.
