the scanner is a cannoscan LiDE20 it came with a computer i had but i have lost the disk is there any way i can load it onto my laptop without the disk

You can download the drivers direct from the canon website.

An important thing to include in computer questions is your operating system. Assuming that you're running Windows XP, just connect the scanner to your computer, and a Found New Hardware wizard should come up and it will search for drivers on the Internet. If that doesn't work, you can go with the first answer and just try to download it on the brand's website, or just type in the model followed by the word "driver" on Google. If you don't have Windows XP, TOO BAD!, include the operating system next time!

If you are running XP it should work fine without the disk. If it doesn't search google for the drivers/software and you'll be fine the big companies usually offer their software for download.

Sometimes the computer can find the drivers from a list already in the hard drive - have you tried that?

Go to the cannon website and see if there is a download of the disc contents

you can download them, save them to disc and then you wont have to mess around if you need them again.
