After reading a lot of posts by christians, I've come to the conclusion that they believe that people have three distinct bodies. The spirit, the soul, and the physical body. When one dies, the soul remains on earth and the spirit goes to heaven or hell. In reincarnation, it's the soul that goes from body to body. So I ask you. Is it possible to believe that your spirit goes to heaven while your soul is reincarnated?

And if it is, why are Christians so against the belief of reincarnation when it fits in perfectly with their belief?

Just my thoughts.

Very good question, I'm not able to answer it but its another hypocrisy that the various religions seem to be full of.

Yes, it is possible to believe both, but for me, the reasons are not specifically the same as what you have listed. For me, my spirit and my soul are the same thing, kind of like saying that a week is a dandelion. The two are the same thing. When one dies, the physical body stays on earth or is cremated. The spirit is immediately present with God. If there is a such thing as reincarnation, which I have no real concrete idea about, just my imagination, the whole process remains in the hands and the plans of God who is in Heaven.
I always thought about "past lives," but I have "heard" that many Christians doubt it simply because it IS NOT WRITTEN in the bible. I don't allow myself that limited thinking. I know God is all powerful, eternal and there is no way we can ever know the whole of Him. I think that we are given chances if the spirit agrees, again, the spirit being the soul, both of which are ONE with God, to come to earth. I like to think of the motive for returning as being trying to get it right again, to make our character and nature more and more like HIM each time we return. That is my thought. Great question and I agree that it is a pretty dern near "perfect fit."

Before you can get a clear answer, you need the actual definition of "Christian." A "Christian" follows the teachings of Christ, more or less. While Jesus Christ spoke very, very little in the Bible, his basic teachings were: Be nice to everyone. Love, accept, and forgive everyone.
He was basically just saying to be mellow. Anyone can be a Christian, basically, espcially when you consider that everything in the Bible is pretty much metaphorical.

Now, most Christians (and other religious believers) tend to portray their holy texts in a way that will benefit them the most, or, in a way that's easier to understand - for themselves. By that logic, you could get a bit wacky with it and theorize, "Sure, we'll all end up in Heaven or Hell on the Day of Judgement. Buuuut in the meantime, maybe we can be reincarnated a few times - just to kill some time 'till Jesus comes back."

Simply, yes, it's possible for any person, Christian or not, to believe anything. All depends on the person and their views.

In the book of Hebrews, it says a man dies once and after that the judgement. That to me shows that there can not be both reincarnation and heaven. Our entrance into heaven is not because we have got it right, or that we have done enough. Our entrance to heaven is paid in full by Jesus' death on the Cross. Jesus died once, then rose from the dead so that we can live eternally with God in heaven. This one life that we have here on earth is not a "dress rehearsal".

Nope. You have it all wrong. The spirit refers to the Holy Spirit which is part of the trinity - the Father the Son and the Holy Ghost - sent to earth to guide our ways. The physical body dies and the soul goes to the afterlife.

Hopefully this will clear it up. Christians believe in resurection not reincarnation. Resurection as the example of Christs assension into Heaven. The body, mind and soul(spirit) will be resurected and reformed to match that of what Christ had origional intended for us before Adam and Eves failure in Eden.

You can "believe" what ever you want to believe.
I don't know if there are any reasons to believe in such a dichotomy.
Can the Soul and Spirit be separate? I like to define Soul as "YOU", everything you are...this includes spirit.

My personal belief is that reincarnation is farcical and not to be trusted..

The soul and the spirit are the same thing. the body remains here obviously, and the spirit either goes to heaven or hell.

Many Christians did accept and beleive in reincarnation before the council of Nicea. It is those men who decided on their own what is acceptable doctrine and what is not, and they picked the scriptures that reflected their personal beleifs and rejected those that went against their opinions.
