Roads were empty, no children at that hour, it was an industrial area, offices, garages, the speed camera got me. 14 miles over the limit is really not that much, you drive at 14 miles an hour and see how fast it is, Id run faster. dont get me wrong, Im against speeding, and if i was doing 60 mph, id put my hands up straight away. Still like a couple of posts said, there are loopholes in the speed cameras and I intend to use all these loopholes, in fact, the first one is in progress and I expect a slapped wrist any day now. As for my driving record, been driving over 20 years, not so much as a paking ticket in all that time and usually, apart from that morning, I do drive within the limits. That morning was so quiet, didnt even notice the speed at 44mph till the flash of the camera and my speed wasnt increasing.

If it was a camera then ask for the proof the local authorities and ask for a copy of the calibration on that day. If you dont receive both then tell them its their job to prove you was doing that speed. I know of a guy that nearly got done doing 150mph in his 1.1 escort (btw they are incapable) because the camera was out of calibration. Lastly never admit the crime until the proof is undeniable

Sorry you have been caught speeding ,

however if the area is restricted to 30 MPH,
you were doing 14 MPH, over that speed limit

You have broken the law and whatever the circumstances ,
you can not claim otherwise .

So pay that fine, accept the notch on your license . and speed no more !

Let 2007, be a safe year for you and all road users .

Well to me, it's not so much the difference in speed in miles per hour. Well I mean it is, but also consider the posted limit. What sounds worse - "I was going 14 mph over the limit", or "I was going almost 50% (44/30=147%) faster than I should have been"?

Yes, it is and for a few of reasons too.

Its a 30 limit, meaning its built up and there is a probability of pedestrians who dont have a metal cage around them to protect them when you hit them - you are more likely to KILL them that way.

It was christmas morning - most children would be awake by then!! and a couple could have been trying out their new bikes, wobbling around the road - OK it was early but kids dont mind when they are excited.

Again - Christmas - you might have hit Santa

If you drive at 100mph on the motorway, it is accepted that thats the speed you will automatically loose your license, this equates to 42.8mph in a 30 limit, you were over that.

And what was the hurry??

Getting caught is the executive part of the law, paying the fine or seeing the judge will determine justice. Too many factors unknown to make a determination here. But getting caught any time on Christmas day is a pisser for sure.

I can't say anything here that nobody else has said, except that the speed limit sign you saw while going down that road; if it were human, I bet at approx. 6:41 am on Christmas morning, it would have been laughing at you and saying, "I TOLD YOU SO!" The law is black and white. It doesn't descriminate, (Well, that one doesn't anyway,) and it can't leave room for mercy, where Driving Safety is concerned.

It is justice in the most absolute way. It seems that you are a selfish, spoiled brat and that you think the rules only apply to you at certain times and under certain conditions. As you have found out, you are wrong. I personally think this is the funniest question I have read today, and I am thrilled because you got busted, you arrogant punk. And to think you can speed on Jesus's birthday. God smote you with a ticket. Hysterical!

Everybody speeds a little, some get caught.
You were speeding.
It's against the law.
Take the 3 points and fine and stop complaining.

Yes it is justice. Just because it's 6.40am, it doesn't mean that there will be no-one around. It does however mean that anyone crossing the road at that time is not expecting much traffic so may not have paying as much attention.

If you can't afford the fine, and the points- DON'T SPEED

Just don't tell the authorities that You didn't notice Your speed or You'll be done for driving without due care and attention.
