Why does everyone feel they have to always "compete" or one up everyone else ? It's so sad today to see so many people having to "buy" their way into this world. What happened to all the "real" folks? Did they fade away in the 80's ? I think so.
Have you ever noticed how people always inflate their salaries, their cars, their homes ? Im convinced, EVERYONE IS A PHONY ! all the real people are GONE !

Some put it down to the demise of religion, because that for thousands of years has made people "whole" or helped them find "meaning".

Some people look for "meaning" in relationships and through the unrealisic expectations of "romance" and "love" and "soulmates" encouraged by the media find huge failure rates because of it.

It could also be put down to a breakdown in communities. From what I know the 70s was the last decade where the 'burbs were the hub of development. In the 80s and 90s the cities were rebuilt, and when someone lives in a city, they usually lose all connection with most peopel around them. And this causes them to get scared so they seek to make themselves look better by "buying" into the world.

There are real people out there, maybe you're looking in the wrong places?

I totally agree with KB, people feel as tho they have no identities, or they don't feel as important as the next person, our world is getting more and more savage, with people losong basic human values, beliefs and virtues that we are all striving to get something back, where years ago and decent honest person, who was reliable and responsible could have been your best friend, but now we make friends to see what we can get out of them and know who they know, so that we can be better than them. It's awful. People take what they want with no regard for anybody else, and if you can't fight you fall by the wayside.

Everyone is doing what shakespeare said year ago when people found it difficult to understand 'the whole world is a stage..and we are all actors...' Everyone is acting a part, a part which they are actually not.

I agree, people are more insecure than ever. i think its marketing and how they have brainwashed some people in beleiving that how we should be. And so out comes all the fakeness.
