If you are a student you can get a student copy from Microsoft or some dealers at discount. Significant discount, like pay 30-40% of list.

There's no safe way of downloading it, cos you are downloading a pirate copy. Buying 2nd hand is a very very grey area too.

Have a look at Open Office... it's not microsoft office but it's similar and can use microsoft office files. It's also downloadable legally for free. I've been using it for several months and not come up against any big problems with compatibility.

You can go to academicsuperstore.com if you are a student or have a student and get it at an academic discount.

If this is not possible, download open office, from openoffice.org, an open source, free alternative to microsoft office which reads and writes the microsoft office format and can read any file written from microsoft office.

The only legal way of buying it is from Microsoft's website or from a store. There is no legal version for free.

Hate to break it to ya.

If you have a teacher or student, you can get the "Teacher and Student" version. It is much cheaper than regular office, and good enough. It includes Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
