Food is divided into 3 main categories: carbohydrates ( bread, pasta, rice....), proteins (red meat, chicken, fish, and grains such as lentils checkpeas beans...), and fats (oil, butter, and also in meat).
So, you can get proteins either from animal source (meat) or from plant source(beans and grains). However, animal source has the risk of additional bad fat. I recommend you taking meat once or twice a week, fish as you like (it contains omega-3 fatty acids that is very healthy and benificial for the heart and other tissues, it helps you stay young as well) and focus on having beans and grains everyday.
Proteins form the building unit of our muscular system (which is actually flesh=meat). When our body is growing, we need proteins inorder to develop new muscles. However, what is very important in the matter of getting taller is bone. We need to take enough calcium inorder to help build up healthy long bones.
After all it is all up to your genes; that is, if your family is tall, you will probably grow to be tall. If your family is usual size, you will grow to be usual size too. However, if you take proper portions of proteins and calcium, inaddition to good sports, you reach to the maximum lenght allowed by your genetic program. Sport is very important because it stimulates the growth of bones, because by sport your muscles get stronger and they sort of pull your bones to be longer. Hope my answer could be of help.

Protein for building body, but taller is different issue, where a short guy can have good body having good protein. Its the pituitary and thyroid gland hormones are responsible for being taller. So have enough iodine, minerals , protein , fibers and good healthy exercise.
Don't put weight exercises it makes bone cartilages become hardened wherein reducing the opportunity to grow.

Proteins might help in the development of children, but adults height I think not. Height aside, protein does allow muscles to grow though. Some good foods are peanut butter, nuts, milk, beef, fish, chicken, these are all great, just watch the cut of beef, too much fat with protein does no good. All meats are very high though.

Proteins or its ingradients amino acids are the building blocks of the body.No proteins ,no tissues and so no growth..Collagens are proteins in nature.Hormones are proteins except the sex hormones and steroids.enzymes, ligaments, tendons, membranes, bone matrix,plasma,.....are all highly proteinous in nature.
The most abundant source of proteins is surprisingly in the egg albumin, almost pure proteins. Then come meat of any kinds.Dairy products are also a good source.
