It depends on the god. The Christian god, named God, is loosely defined by the Bible. The Muslim god, named Allah, is loosely defined by the Quran.

I've always felt what God said to Moses when Moses asked, "Who shall I say sent me?" was profound. God said "I AM!"
What we call God is like the first thought. The realization that God even existed. And I feel all intelligent life came from that realization. And intelligent life creates everything else we experience.
