If he is infinitely good, what reason should we have to fear him?
To say that God is infinitely good is somewhat misleading. I am not saying that God is not "infinitely good." But the point is that God is not only infinitely good. God is also just, righteous, holy, forgiving, gracious, and a host of other moral purities. Therefore, when addressing an issue dealing with God's behavior, if someone were to select a specific and very narrow aspect of God's character and then build an entire argument upon that "sliver of truth," (while ignoring other aspects) then the argument that follows is not representative of what God truly is and cannot accurately represent the character and actions of God. Therefore, the argument and its conclusion are highly suspect and the conclusions are naturally in doubt.
Nevertheless, God is not only good. He is also righteous. He has stated that He will punish those who are unrighteous. "Thus I will punish the world for its evil, and the wicked for their iniquity," (Isa. 13:11). Therefore, those who are unrighteous should fear God since He has the right and ability to punish.
Also, if God is infinitely good, should He not also be infinitely righteous? Isn't righteousness a good thing? Of course it is. Therefore, if God is by definition good, then He must also be righteous. Then we can ask, if anyone is unrighteous should God punish him for his unrighteousness? Would it be a good thing to let someone do bad things and not get punished? I would hope that even the atheists would realize and accept the premise that people who do bad things should be punished and held responsible for their actions. If our judicial system were "infinitely good," we would have no prisons because we would have no justice.
The premise of the argument is incomplete and insufficient.

Jesus wants us to be like him not next to him. As far as fear goes, fear is what pushes us forward for the very fact we run from it. It only becomes a problem when it traps us. The greatest thing one should fear is themselves. Still I am sure that fear in this case really means respect.

It does not, it was initially a way of keeping people ignorant and controlling people. It is an idea now so imbedded within certain ideologies that it is believed, anyone who has looked into the roots of their own religion with an open and intelligent, rational mind would have to come up with the same conclusion. Those who don't are missing something.

to Fear God, as mentioned in the Bible , does not mean a scared kind of fear(terror), it means to have a healthy fear of displeasing him, just like we would fear displeasing our parents as a child.
This fear brings us closer to God because it means that we will respect him and try not to dissapoint him by our actions, thus leading a better and pleasing way of life.
When you learn about God, the way that he loves us and teaches us how to benefit ourselves, and the promises he gives us for the future bring us closer to him and make us love him.
One of the words used in the Bible for love is Agape, and this is a principled love, not just based on mere sentiments and emotions, but a principled love that moves us to act. When we really love God, we try our hardest to obey him, and this calls for sacrifice on our parts- yet it is not burdensome. We are all imperfect and will get it wrong many times, but God never forgets when we try to be pleasing to him.

Fear is not the one that we know of, like fearing the ganster or tyrant. But the fear that we know are are worthless, and sinful, by our strength, we can never please God.
Fear in this instand is, to know that if God do not accept us, we will be death. It is also this fear, that the Lord knows you truely love him, and thus you will find knowledge.
Fear of the Lord is the begining of wisdom.

Fearing God as stated in the Bible is not the scary fear you are thinking of. What it actually means is respect and awe for God.

No, because you can not be closer to God then you are right now. Since he sent Jesus to die for you, followed by the holy spirit, he now has a dwelling place inside you and nothing you can do makes u any closer to him although sometimes we feel that we are distant but feelings can be decieveing,
