This site is every bit as offensive as the Prophet Mohammad cartoons, and yet no one in Thailand has issued the Buddhist equivalent of a death fatwa or showed up on the street to protest. Is it because they are less religious (doubtful) or less crazy (probably)?:

Jen: this isn't the only instance. What about when the Taliban blew up the Buddha statues? Still didn't happen. It's about more than "graven images," obviously.

According to the Biblical text, when Abraham (refereed to as the Father of all Nations) and his wife Sarah were unable to bear a child, He (Abraham) slept with their maid (with the approval of Sarah anyway). The maid became pregnant and gave birth to a boy named Ishmael (something like that). Later, Sarah was able to conceive and she had a baby boy named Isaac.
As Abraham aged and both kids (Ishmael and Isaac) grew up, Sarah was concerned that the offspring of their maid will become the heir to the throne of Abraham. She suggested they put out their maid and her son, Ismael: This they did, depriving Ismael his birth right.
Hence, Isaac succeeded Abraham and his lineage continued into Judaism and today's Christianity. Whereas, Ismael started the Muslim belief system which was later expounded by Mohamed.
Apparently, the conflict between the Muslims and the Christians dates centuries ago. The fact that the Christians (Jews) have always treated them as second class Beings right from the time of Isaac has probably left some anger in their Blood line. This anger is Triggered every time there is any form of confrontation between them and a Christian (or a Jew).
I hope this helps to explain "Why the Muslims are so quick to take offense"

Yeah putting an image of Buddha on a porn website is bad and disrespectful. But there is no rule about not depicting Buddha. There is a rule about not depicting the Prophet Mohammed. Images in general are a hot button issue in Islam. Most of the art is made up of quotes beautifully designed and scripted into a complex pattern. No pictures.

Depicting Mohammed was like if someone went over to the National Cathedral in the States and razed it to the ground. It was one of the most sacreligious and disrespectful things someone could do.

Also, Moslems make up a large part of the world population. You cannot judge all Moslems based on the actions of the vocal and violent fringe groups. Every religion has it's radical fringe groups. We just don't hear about it as much because right now the news that sells is about Islam. But wow are there radicals in other religions. It's scary actually.

If you look back over the questions asked in here lately the Moslems in general have been so patient and have been handling the questions designed to provoke them with such grace. They are not quick to take offense at all. They all seem very open to dialogue. I hope that someone takes advantage of that openness soon and starts asking some intelligent questions.

God Bless.

P.S. The Taliban has always been recognized as a radical fringe group. They may have been in power, but they were never representative of Islam.

*sigh* this is an easy one. Plain and simple, many Muslims, just like ANY other religious people, are very hard-core in their beliefs. I think it's rather simpleminded, in my opinion, but that's just my opinion.

Take your stereotypical Southern Baptist. You don't even have to insult them or their religious beliefs directly to get their scorn. They've boycotted numerous products and companies, including Disney, of course, for ridiculous and laughable reasons.

I'll bet that most Muslims that heard about that were slightly irritated, but just let it go. Just like any other religion - there are some people that take things wayyy too seriously, but most are probably just laid back about most things.

The thing with Buddhism, is that it isn't so much like any other mainstream religion. There isn't a giant, angry diety waiting to take you to a paradise or condemn you to an eternity of angst. Some of the sole principals of Buddhism are basically just to shrug things off, relax, and try to understand your fellow man. Buddhism teaches that anger, rage, etc., aren't healthy for one's soul. So it'd be pretty hard to piss a Buddhist off. When's the last time you saw a picture of The Lama *not* smiling? They're just mellow folks.

You don't see us in the streets of the US protesting this site, do you? Think logically, man. Those riots were not everywhere. And the Prophet (PBUH) would be angry with those muslims who rioted so violently about a stupid drawing. Islam says you can not force somebody to follow your beliefs, and that would include in drawings. A good muslim will give an opinion and respond nicely, not with the craziness that ensued about paper and ink. I am a muslim. I personally find this site very interesting. True, you come across some odd ignorant bigots on here who are out to insult not only muslims, but attack others as well. You need to think. Islam commands this as well. Think about reality when you are thinking of doing something. Think about the consequences. Most importantly to muslims, think about how the Quran says to leave those who reject Islam alone. Say to them "To you be your way, to me be mine". And I am not a crazy woman either, LOL. I have a high IQ, just graduated from college on December 21st with a degree in Travel, have a job in marketing, and have two wonderful children. I own my own home, other properties, and my two cars. I also give back to the community. For example, this Christmas while shopping I took a few of those wish lists off of the Salvation Army trees and bought what the children asked for. It's not my religion, but I know it made some child very happy to receive something and know that somebody out there does care about how they feel.

Many religious people are like that. When you criticis e a person's core beliefs, you criticise their core. Of course people are going to take offense. It's not just Muslims though, I have had many unchristian emails from people purporting to be christians.

No, it truly is an insult to their perception device, like even as Christians get pissed once you tell them it truly is all a sham. Edit: Are you particular about that? besides your question assumes that it truly is their concept...the defacing of the e book is a sin, it truly is considered as blasphemous. do not tell me you're one among those that announces to be sure about each of the evils of the Qu'ran even as no longer understanding that straightforward reality of it truly is value to Muslims...
