Learn to bite your nails instead, then go and get a really nice manicure that you don't want to ruin so you think about stopping every time you put a finger in your mouth, Don't laugh, it worked for me!!
But then again I tried everything from chupachups to Popsicle stick to only drinking thing through a straw, to one of those horrible fake cigarette inhalers to painting the end of a cigarette red and pretending to smoke that(this one in private I couldn't take the laughs)
I used to bite my lips for years whether I was smoking or not , that last little bit of dry skin that just needed to be bitten while I was thinking about Not having a cigarette.....in the end I found a really good lip balm to keep my lips in good condition so I wouldn't "just nibble that little bit....".
All I can say is Good luck, and every day you don't smoke is another day you are smoker doing really well.

I quit at the end of 2003. This was a concern for me but it disappeared much sooner than I thought it would. So don't worry. Just make sure you always have a magazine or book (or crossword/sudoku book), and a pen on you if you are going to be waiting places alone. Read the book or magazine while holding the pen, this feels quite comforting. I found I drank more when I quit so I made sure when out I had less alcoholic drinks or took smaller sips to compensate. Chew gum or have healthy snacks around. Its just un-learning a habit and it will take very little time for you to no longer notice your hands.

Good for you, keep it up, I gave up in March last year and found that chewing gum helped me, and I also took to doodling on paper, sounds stupid but just drawing little pictures of anything (usually flowers, houses and stick men as my artistic skills are very limited) but it kept my hands busy!!! At home I took to making strings of beads, I bought loads from ebay for a few pence and started threading them onto fishing wire, I made about a million long strings of beads, but I am still not smoking!!!

Quit myself 6 months ago - i went through the mouth chewing too but it does stop. Focus on the money you are saving and the health benefits. Put the money in a pot every day (as much or as little as you want - i put price of a packet of fags). Count is when you feel weak and treat yourself to some new gear - just think it wont smell of fags!!! GOOD LUCK

Use expensive lip gloss or lipstick to prevent you biting your mouth - it's just a new habit to replace your ciggy one. You're doing really well, so don't stop now!

well, there was dr.phill's programme about this one - u were smoking cos u have some tension inside. so to release this tension u were smoking. now u do not smoke but u still need to release this tension. that's why u re biting your lips. so substitute it with smth good - clean smth - that will occupy your hands. but actually u have to find out what is this that gives u this tension

try eating candy, it can keep your hands and your mouth busy.
only problem is the extra weight gain from eating all the candy.
