A man tells a woman that he didn’t "think it was a good idea to get together that night".

Later he tells her the reason he said no is because she said she wanted him to be patient with her and go slow, he thought what she meant by going slow was to get to know one another and be friends first and he didn't want to take advantage of her.

Should she believe him? And if so does that mean he cares about her (not just into her for sex).

I would say believe him. It sounds like he does really like you and wants to honor your wishes. He knows that if you did get together you would wind up having sex and that changes everything. I would say give him a call and go out again.

Excellent question. If you take what he said "literally" it does gives the impression that he is honest and doesn't want to take advantage of the woman.

But, I believe that's an improper comment to make to the lady after she's been with him, for he also gives the FALSE impression that there's something that he didn't like when the two were together.

But the woman MUST be alert, yet give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

Seems to me that question is largely unanswerable here. Why? Because one needs to know the circumstances. Is the guy believable, does he otherwise show regard and respect for her and honor her? It doesn't SOUND so believable when he tells her he didn't want to take advantage of her. That means he otherwise WOULD take advantage of her? I'd be leery--but I'm a leery guy. :)

The bottom line is don't have sex before you're married and let the chips fall where they may. This will likely cause you to eventually wind up with the right man.
