Please read this webpage http://www.usedcartips.org/AUCTIONS.html and then decide if buying a vehicle on the internet is for you.

Be very carefull, if a car is say on e-bay, its there for a reason, most likely they've tried a dealer and either think its worth a lot more than they were offered, or are selling it there because its a shed.

Buying used cars is something you really cant do safely online, cant beat actually sitting in and doing a few basic checks on a car in person, go to a car auction and watch the car dealers, even if you dont plan to buy there you get an idea of what second hand dealers are looking for, they seem able to spot a wrong un' in seconds. Talk to the dealers at an auction as well, they are usually quite happy to help you out and give you info on what to look for.

I'm assuming you mean by buying on ebay, if its just a regular car advert on the net just do the same as if it was an ad in the auto trader.

If its ebay auction then use your own judgement, there are great buys to be had on ebay as most only reach trade prices. Of course with this you take trade risks, so you bid and its yours with no backing out even if its a dud (unless its been blatantly misdescribed).

Avoid these auctions which look too good to be true, especially if they say send us the money and we will deliver the car.

Good luck and happy hunting.

To be honest I don't see how you could do it WITHOUT getting duped.

Go and at least look at the vehicle, before attempting to buy it.

don't make any commitment to buy until you have been to look at the car. Take a freind/mechanic who knows about cars. If it looks to good to be true it more than likely is!!
