Yes they are and have been in the past. The difference is that there are more people in the west who object to this than ever before. There has actually been some progress.

Western countries are reacting to the huge influx of people groups entering their societies from third world nations. Western nationalities are trying to protect that which their ancestors have worked hard for - healthy economies, culture, traditional values, established lifestyles and practices.

When foreign people begin to wander in with their own customs and ways of living, it naturally makes a person protective of the things they hold dear.

I wouldn't call it racism though. If you went to one of these foreign countries, you would not get away with acting 'western' for very long. You would have to blend in. I had two friends that went to Turkey and were thrown in jail for the most minor of cultural offenses. They didn't even realise they had done anything wrong.

Go figure.

There is racism in all ethnic groups, & all countries. It's easy & convienient to blame someone else for your own problems,instead of putting in some effort to fix your problems yourself.
