Just say you produce a better preformance during the night and state a reason. If you just say, I want this, your not gonna get it, make up a reason. An example of this for me is when my school put my locker on the second floor. I was too lazy to go upstairs everytime I needed my textbook, so I told them I "needed" the locker on ground floor because of a bad knee. and it worked! Try BS ing a reason for yourself, it's highly effective!

My inner strengths are:
a. I work best at nights.
b. My productivity increases in a quiet place when the possibility of distraction or interruption is comparitively less. I have found night times are ideally suited for this purpose.
c. I motivate my team members to perform to their fullest potential by showing my own productivity level.
d. I demand myself a lot to accomplish. It helps me to stay positive and stay focussed. Night times are best suited for my approach to activities.

List c and d so that you have given them the idea that you like night shift the best. You do not have to necessarily say that you do not want day. It is implied.

Just explain straightforwardly and briefly what your experience is of working nights and why this is what you want to do; also say whether or not you are prepared to be flexible about shiftwork. There are plenty of employers who will welcome this as there is generally a shortage of people willing to work nights. I suggest you only apply where nightwork and shiftwork are important to the company's business, but this includes a huge variety of work.
