I am a student, and recently I just had a blister on my toe. It's the 2nd toe from the right on my right foot. It probably formed as I wore a new shoe which was too small for me. How do you treat it with simple medication?

Hi, Any antibiotic ointment applied after washing the area with soap and water will dry it up very quickly. There are several that can be bought over the counter at the pharmacies. If you are diabetic you might want to go to a doctor and have him access it. Diabetics feet have to be watched very carefully for open areas as they do not heal well do lack of circulation in the lower extremities. Good Luck!

No need for any medication. The blister will feel better if you drain it. Use a needle and clean it well with a bit of alcohol and a cotton swab or ball. Gently puncture the blister through the side, to release the liquid inside. The blister should drain on it's own, but if need be you can press it lightly on the top. When it flattens against the surface, cover it with a bandaid. That's all you need to do. Don't remove the skin covering, as it protects the skin underneath and will slough off when it's healed completely. Take care to wear looser socks and shoes for the next bit until it does heal, and I'd recommend getting rid of the small shoes. Properly fitted shoes do not cause blisters, nor should a shoe need to be "broken in" to be comfortable. If a shoe is too small or too tight, don't wear it at all.

Do not break or open the blister. Clean it with an antiseptic, then put an antibiotic ointment on it. Put a bandage over it to protect, and wear looser shoes until it heals.

To prevent blisters in the future, use moleskin over the vulnerable area; it's very effective.

What ever you do don't break the blister, the fliud inside is natures way of healing. The same goes for burns. Your best bet is just protect it from further damage. Breaking the blister only serves to open the area up to infection.

Yes bigger shoes. Until then where flip flops or bigger shoes so they have time to heal. Keep them lubricated also and clean so they are free from infection.
