No, there is no problem. In fact, the Army will provide you with glasses so that your "civilian" eye wear won't get broken while you are in training, on exercises, or while deployed.
The only problem would be if you're color blind. Believe it or not, that is a disqualifier for infantry.
OH, and contact lens will only help when you are in a garrison environment. You definately don't want contacts when you are in the field. You won't have the time or cleanliness needed to properly take care of your contacts.
Been there, done that.

Lots of people wear glasses in the Army and do fine. This includes both officers and enlisted men on the war front, to those doing desk jobs.

I was in the army and there can be some issues but the best thing to do is talk to a recruiter about it. Bug GI glasses are butt ugly and they are often called BCG's birth control glasses because once you wear them no one wants to do the horizontal mambo with ya.

My husband's in the army (not infantry, though) and they just issued him a spiffy set of BCGs (birth control glasses--it's a joke because they are the epitome of all that is dorky looking).
Contacts are a great alternative. I can't see them discriminating against you because you've got eyesight issues.

Hello,
It may sound impossible but it's really easy to improve your vision without surgery with some specific eye exercises. I'm following this method http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=413 and it's working incredibly well.
It's the best choice.
Best
