Of course you've heard of feed a cold, starve a fever. There's a reason why people eat chicken soup when sick. There's an ingredient in the chicken broth that combats bronchial congestion. Also, for stuffiness, use vicks vapor rub, but if you can't stand having the goop on you, then melt some in a bowl of hot water and leave it on your bedside table and let the vapors permeate. Warning: the smell might bother or offset sinuses of any other people living with you. If your head hurts, I love rubbing the stuff on my forehead. It seems to numb the pain. Zinc lozenges are great for preventing colds, but I don't know if it helps to lessen a cold if you're already got one. I forget, anyway, it couldn't hurt. You're supposed to let those melt in your mouth, don't chew them. It actually says that on the packaging. Taking vitamin C tablets I hear can speed up recovery. Also getting a massage is a natural holistic remedy for many things. Perhaps you have a spouse or mate that will be kind enough to oblige.
Sore throat? Gargling with warm salt water will help kill germs and lessen pain. If you swallow any of this stuff, you'll make a face like you were biting a lemon. It's gross! Speaking of lemons, some warm lemon honey tea will help coat and sooth your throat, and of course you'll need the vitamin C from the lemon. Don't eat or drink any dairy products as this produces more mucus.
Music calms the savage beast. It can also help cure him. Having some soothing music playing in the background while you rest or read can really improve your mood. Your mental state has a lot to do with wellness. Your body is more receptive to healing. Watching a comedy on t.v. or reading the comics isn't a bad idea either. Laughter is the best medicine.
Get well soon.

Dont go to your GP for a cold...........they have proper ill people to see to, unless you feel you are getting much worse.
There is no cure for the common cold. High dose vitamin c is great speeding up the recovery of a cold.
Regular paracetamol if you have a fever.
Spicy curry will sort out nasal and sinus congestion - get to that curry house for a nice madras.
If you have a sore throat honey, lemon and hot water.
Hot toddie before bed - whisky, hot water and 3 whole cloves in it.
Rest rest rest.
Colds can take a couple of weeks to go.

Think a saying goes that a cold will disappear in 6 days with treatment and half a dozen if you don't. Reckon all you can do is treat the symptoms of a cold and if it goes onto your chest then maybe go to the docs to make sure you haven't got a secondary infection. Keep warm, and if you're that bad stay off work to try not and spread it to everyone else.

Stir fried ginger, garlic ,spring onions & chillies.Won't cure instantly but at least your body will be obtaining some nutrition .
The only thing about this recipe is getting the energy to make it and resorting back to Lemsip land instead.. as I have just done.
Is n't it amazing how easy it is to ignore your own advice?
Good luck..

i usually take a double dose of vitamins. one dose in morning another in evening. i can actually feel how i feel better after each intake. cold usually takes no more than 3 days and it is very mild - i do not have any fever and i am not dying. just maybe a sore throat and some cough and a little running nose. so i recommend to everybody - take vitamins (multi vitamins)
