Have you ever tried Mylanta? Before I was prescribed Nexium, I used Mylanta. Now, when I run out of my pills, I rely on my old faithful - Mylanta. It really works. I keep a bottle of it by my bedside at all times, and when I need it, I just open the lid and take a swig of it. I don't need it again that night. Sometimes, I will just take a drink of it before I lay down, and I won't have to use it at all the rest of the night. It comes in several flavors - original, cherry, mint, could be some more - not sure. I always use the regular flavor, because it is the best. Also, make sure you get the one that is maximum strength. Best of luck to you!

I had a defect in my digestive system. After suffering with the acid reflux for over 20 years, the pills, the chalky stuff, I had the minor surgery to fix the defect. Oh how I wish I would have done it sooner. See a Gastrointernologist, get an upper GI and see if you would benefit from the surgery. Good Luck!

Have you seen a gastroenterologist yet? If not, find a board certified gastroenterologist and let him check it out.

Like someone has already said, GERD can have some nasty complications, so you don't want to let it go untreated. You didn't mention what pills you're taking, but if it's the over the counter meds, there are prescription meds available that are just wonderful.

Someone else already gave you good tips for managing GERD. The only thing I would add to that is to avoid citrus, highly acidic foods, foods high in fat content, smoking, and alcohol.

you may not be able to avoid pills, get it checked out, recurrent acid related problems can be due to an uderlying cause which if treated can prevent some serious problems. trust me my mum ended up with barratts eosophageous because she just kept on taking the heartburn pills without ever finding out WHY she had it. If i were you, i would do two things, look up GERD on the net and book an appointment with your healthcare practitioner. all the best to you.

Losing weight is the most effective way w/o the use of meds. Also do not eat to excess and overfill the stomach, eat more frequest yet smaller meals, do not smoke, do not drink alcohol, no spicy food, and do not go to sleep or recline for some time after eating.

Eat smaller meals, don't bend down after eating and sleep sitting up.
