Zazu is a fictional hornbill who first appeared in the Walt Disney Pictures animated film The Lion King. As majordomo to King Mufasa, his proper, dignified, nervous, and easily-rattled personality is the polar opposite in temperament of the protagonists, lion cubs Simba and Nala.

Along with Iago, the parrot from Aladdin he appears as one of the hosts of The Enchanted Tiki Room (Under New Management) at Walt Disney World in Florida.

If Zazu was a Toucan, then Disney got something very wrong. Toucans are *New World Birds*, they come from South and Central American Tropics, not Africa. I know Disney worked hard enough to replicate the African Savannah to avoid such errors. As others have stated, Zazu is a Red-billed Hornbill.

He's a hornbill which is native to Africa. Some species wall in the female when eggs are laid and the male feeds the female insects through a small hole. The female breaks out later and joins the male in walling in their babies again and feeding them through the hole. They then break out when the babies are large enough. Great protection adaptation. Very interesting birds!
