It's the input port for a DVI cable. You hook up the TV to some other component like a DVD player or cable box using a DVI cable to transmit video.

Its a method of connection that trnsmits digital to digital without the need to convert to analogue and back.
Yo ucan use the DVI connector to carry HDMI signals but it wont carry audio. Youll need to ad da couple of phono leads for that
