My sympathies! They can make going to work horrible!
Simply ignore the bitchiness, and respond with a smile. Your co-worker should be pitied, her(his) life is miserable, and that is contagious, but love is also contagious, spread that instead!

I bought a book called Dealing with Difficult People from staples. Has a lot of good suggestions. Also, here is a web site about it.
Good luck, I totally feel for you. I had a co worker who was a total *****, but she had an advantage, she was related to someone way higher up.
I switched jobs.

Yes I do, as I have survived a few. Be just as bitchy back until they either:
(a) Crack and be nice to you
(b) Ignore you completely, or
(c) Quit
Hope this helps as it has helped me in the past.

It's best to ignore them and only deal with if/when you must and even then be polite and civil to them even, nay ESPECIALLY, if they're not to you.
