Confusing I know.
If I were you I will go to the store, see and judge with my own eyes and choose the best TV for my own.

I like plasmas although the difference between the two is lessening by the month. I never liked LCD because of the ghosting of images that move swiftly across the screen. Plasmas have a much better refresh rate and don't suffer as much from ghosting. Also, plasmas usually have a much higher contrast ratio capability than LCD's. However, newer model LCD's (quality brands) have almost caught up to plasmas in this field.
Your best bet is to go to a nice TV shop and judge the pictures for yourself. When I bought mine, the salesman was trying to tell me that the Panasonic model had a better picture than the LG that I was looking at. The two sets were side by side in the store and the LG clearly had a much better picture and truer colors to my wife and I, yet this guy still insisted the Panasonic was better. I think he was just pushing that particular model, which is one of the main reasons I say to let your own eyes make the decisions.

Good luck!

Ah the eternal debate....If it's anything below 40 lcd hands down, if it's bigger than that, then the arguments start! I still say lcd, for a couple of reasons:

The life expectancy of LCD is about 60,000 hours which is double that of plasma.

The burn in problem (where an image permanently 'burns' into the screen) is a factor with plasma, which will probably prevent you from using it for gaming.

LCD copes better with temperature changes.

LCD uses about 30% less power than plasma.

LCD is lighter size for size than plasma, so is easier to transport and hang.

So LCD seems to have everything going for it right? Not quite, if you're going for a cheap TV, plasma is going to work out cheaper than LCD. If you go with LCD, you need to go for a good brand, in order to get good quality picture out of it. So, decide you're size, and work out your budget :)

up to 42" lcd are far better. above this some people say plasma have a slight edge. if you intend gaming on it avoid plasma. the best on the market at present is the sony bravia range.

LCD because with plasma they need recharging after about 5 years and because they are the same as flat screen monitors you can get the little dots appearing on them when the pixcels start to go

Happy shopping

Dont have a plasma.I had 3 and had trouble with them, like ghosting in the background when watching a dark picture, you also get screen burn if you pause live tv or a dvd etc.I got rid of mine and had a Sony Bravia 40ins which is a lot better picture quality etc.Lcds also last longer and take less electricity. If you want a good deal on 1 click the link, this is where i got mine from http://digital-point.co.uk

plasma tend to generate more heat and will thus wear out faster although some say they have higher picture quality. So its a trade off.

if you're planning on playing games on the TV then you'd better get an LCD unit.
