Okay, so my wisdom teeth came out on friday morning...it's been 3 and a half days...and I've been without a cigarette since then. This is becoming very, VERY difficult for me. I am irritable, I can't sleep, and all I can think about is when I am going to have a cigarette! If I light one up, and inhale very, very carefully...is there a chance that I won't get dry socket? I'm so afraid of getting it, because of all the horror stories I've heard. But this is driving me nuts. Please help!

When I was in the USMC, I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed at once. I was told to not smoke, as you were. I waited about 2 days, then began to smoke, carefully at first, and then by the 3rd day, was smoking no problem.

My advice, go have a cigarette, and relax. Dry sockets can be a problem, but after 3+ days, you really aren't at much risk of that anymore.

"There are some activities which may increase the propensity for dry socket formation...smoking, drinking carbonated beverages in the first 24 hours after surgery, spitting or drinking through a straw in that same time period...but often "dry sockets" occur for no particular reason at all. "

Hope your pain goes away (from teeth extraction). Just keep up the good work in abstaining from smoking. Instead of lighting up, chew gum instead. You can do it! Use willpower- we all have it. If you went this long, push yourself and don't give in. If you don't have any gum, bite the end of a pen. Just try to distract your thoughts from smoking.

don't do it. you don't want dry socket. you have the rest of your life to smoke cigarettes. if you can just hold out a little while longer...drink lots of water...that helps.

i understand you're addicted to nicotine... but.. is it really worth the trouble you will go through later if you do have that cigarette..?? it won't stop at one.. you'll say.. well.. nothing happened.. and i need another one... it's up to you... but i wouldn't... hey.. think of it this way.. once this is all over.. you might have quit altogether.. now you'll live longer too!

helloooooo she can't chew gum... she had her teeth pulled..!!!!!
