I had a perm before christmas, but it is not very curly, my hairdresser says she will perm it again free of charge, but its only about 3 weeks since the first perm.

Generally a perm should last 3 months, but if you have what's called a setting perm, it should last 6 months. How long the perm lasts also depends how you take care of it (like, don't straighten it too much with brushing and hair products that straighten your hair, and when you dry your hair, twirl your hair and dry at the same time).

In your case, either your hairdresser is very nice, or she realises she didn't do a good job the first time, I'm not sure just from your description.

Depending on the chemicals your hairdresser uses, if it's the good kind, (observe whether she needs to wear gloves! and the state of her hands), that is not very toxic, then why not get it done for free, even 3 weeks after your first perm. But if you know it was a cheap perm then most likely the more toxic chemicals were used. Then not only is it not too good for your scalp, but also bad for your hair.

NO NO NO , that isnt a very good hairdresser. At least wait 3 months be4 you even think about another one. Just deal with that one for a while...for the girl that said get a perm every 6 weeks. No offense meant, but that is onyl for african american people like myself, because our hair is a different texture

Depends on the strength of the perm and the condition of your hair, BUT make sure you specifically ask the hairdresser what the implications are of having another perm so soon. Make sure she/he explains in detail what will happen. If this then proves to be incorrect, you have some grounds for compensation.

Honestly, three months and I am very experienced in perms. I have had many both to straighten and curl my hair. Please don't attempt it more often than three months because you will destroy your hair. No hair, permed or natural, looks good when it is dry and frizzy and too many perms or two close together will result in messed up hair. Try to use some good gels and mouses. I have found that fruitus (i'm sure the spelling is wrong but they are bright green bottles- very hard to miss) works very well. Put the gell in your hair. Flip your hair and scrunch with a washcloth (prevents frizz). Then use hairspray while flipped and again when you stand to get the top of your head properly. Repeat two or three times over the next thirty minutes and you will be gold. If you want more body use a hairdryer while you scrunch your hair. This will help you wait the three months necessary until you can perm your hair again. (please make sure your hairdresser will do it again when it is time. any sooner and it is irresponsible). Good luck and I am sure this will work

Are perms in again? I thought natural would be in now but I am old school.
Perms however will destroy your hair, I would wait for at least a couple of weeks.

It can be done under professional supervision. Ask about conditioning treatments as too much chemical will dry out the hair. If the failed perm was due to the salon then they should offer you free treatments. Failed perms can also be due to medical conditions such as pregnency or thyroid problems. I doubt you have a medical condition though

Some thyroid disorders can be cured, but many require lifetime treatment. Learn here https://tr.im/jG6ou
For example, sometimes early stage thyroid cancer can be cured by surgery to remove the thyroid gland, but you will need to take thyroid hormone medication afterwards for the rest of your life. Goiters can also be surgically removed and do not always recur after surgery. In most cases, thyroid disorders need treatment over a lifetime. However, with treatment most people with thyroid disorders can live normal, healthy lives.

I would wait for 6 weeks before you redo it. Your hairdresser shouldn't charge you.

Were you on or expecting your period when it was done as this can affect the results quite drastically

You have to wait at least a month. My friend always waits at least 2 months, though and she has real nappy, curly hair. Be careful. Your hairdresser should know what she's doing though.
