Labrador-loyal, loving, energetic when you want him to be, great with my screching 3 year old boy (dog comes back for more!), calm when you want him to be, HIGHLY trainable, HIGHLY intelligent, we don't use traditional doggy commands, we just talk to him like a person, good watch dog-he looks very mean when he's all bristled up and snarling, truth be told, he couldn't hurt a flea if he tried. Saw him nose to nose with a ground hog (a big-un) on the patio last summer, just as sweet as could be. Good with both our cats-he loves them, great with other dogs.

Well, labs are great once they mature but the puppies are a bit overwound I think. We had two doxies and they were sweet but one was stubborn and the other was very slow on the uptake :) My absolute favorite dog was a little mixed breed, not sure what was in her bloodline but she was very smart and just an all around great dog.
OTOH, the worst breed I've ever seen was Scotties. My aunt had 2 and they were both hyper active and mean. I never did like to play with those dogs! LOL

I've had several breeds of dog (including mutts) and have family & friends with lots of dogs. While all dog breeds can be great, and I feel a lot has to do the the individual personality of the dog, the Doxie is my favorite. I currently have a 2 year old daschund. He's like a little clown...trying to be the center of attention and is sooo sweet. He knows when someone is upset or not feeling well and cuddles with them. He's gotten into the habbit of plopping into our arms like a baby when he wants his belly rubbed. He's smart enough to bark at strangers, but be freindly when he figures out its someone we know. He also knows to use his indoor 'voice' when inside and makes sounds that aren't like regular barks so he's quieter.
Even though he's a small dog with short legs, he can run really fast and can jump like a rabbit! The incredible energy keeps you going so he doesn't let us get lazy.

As a veterinary nurse we see a lot of different breeds.
The one breed i always give lots of cuddles are labradors.
Labs are just so lovable/friendly/smart (can be a handful if not trained)/playful/a part of the family/CUTE!
But when looking to adopt a dog - i ALWAYS recommend an animal shelter. Thats how I adopted my 2 HEINZ varieties, as much as I love labs - I just couldn't say no when people brought my dogs into work to be euthanised at 10weeks old.

Tibetin Terriers. They're incredibly loyal, great guard dogs, very sweet, don't shed and live a long time. Plus they're not too big and not too small, about 25 pounds. If you look at a picture of one they almost always show it with very long hair, I have a Tibetin Terrier and her hair isn't long, we keep it at maybe 2 inches or so.

Any dog with the name "bull" in it. Bulldogs are loyal, loving, silly and just plain fun to be around.
I also have a soft spot for shelter dogs. Mutts are fun because no two are alike and they need loving homes!

pit bull terrier, because they are the most people like dog not to mention the most loyal and affectionate, also they are the most misunderstood and misjudged breed due to a bad media hype that led people to believe that they are a vicious breed.

Well I have a bearded collie and he is lovely BUT high maintenance... Long haired dogs normally require al ot of grooming but I don't mind. SO for me he's perfect.
