The easiest way to determine a kitten or puppy's age is by its teeth. At age 4 months their adult incisiors come in-the eight teeth (4 top, 4 bottom) between their canines. At age 6 months their canine teeth come in. Take the kitten to the vet, they should be able to tell you. Besides there are vaccinations you need and tests you should have ran. Assuming you are keeping this kitten.

Basically the vet can tell by looking at the teeth.
First of all, is it weaned? Is it able to eat solid food? One can not always tell by size, as the size of the parents, & their basic health, as well as that of the kitten needs to be considered. In general, if it is bigger than the palm of an average adult hand, it is probably more than two months old. If one can fit an average adult-size hand around it's midsection with a little room to spare, it is probably at least five months old.
Because size & weight vary so much by breed, you should ask your vet to be more accurate. They can go by other physiological signs to determine more presicely it's age. I hope while you are there, you will check into getting your new friend spayed or neutered, as the case may be.

I would think common sense. But I guess if you have never had a cat you wouldn't no. Get a cat book or a cat site on the net and work it out from there. When they are under 8 weeks they tend to have a promonate head on a scrawny body.
