My roommate has a turtle which she usually keeps separate from my cats, knowing how curious cats can be. But today she accidentally left a door open and when we came home, the turtle was gone, and there were water splashes next to the aquarium. We searched everywhere in the house but no sign of turtle. Can cats eat turtles? It seems like an un-natural form of food for cats, with the shell and everything. But if the cat did eat the turtle, is the cat going to get sick, or catch some sort of disease?

Checked the cat poop very thoroughly today.. and no sign of turtle shell! I am still hoping the turtle will show up somewhere in the house.

Found the turtle crawling around in the bathroom today! Yay!! I think the cats must've played with it and scared it into hiding for two days. Thank you all for your answers.

Yes cats can eat turtles,,, In the wild leopards love eating turtles/ tortoise. (Watch the discovery channel more often you may learn something)

its in a cats nature to hunt and play,,, and a turtle is like a gobstopper to a cat it provides nice play time wile trying to find a way through the shell then a yummy meat treat inside.

The cat should be OK if the turtle was domesticated.

Even if the cat did attack and eat the turtle, Chuck could not have eaten the shell. So Kat will probably find the whole turtle someday under the bed. If it is a small turtle then it may have even gone under the door into another room.

The shell would probably cause the cat the most problems. I really do not know much about this subject except if your cats or cat eat animals then yes the cat would probably attack the turtle at least as soon as the cat got brave enough.

Cats can eat turtles...most cats would leave the shell, but I have witnessed cats eat a whole rabbit...skull and all. It's not probable, but is possible. They wouldn't likely get sick from it either. Cats have extremely strong stomachs.

How big was the turtle? I think your cat would have a hard time getting past the shell.

They can eat turtles, but only if they can find a way to crack the shell. Hopefully your friend will find the turtles soon! I hope it all works out!

If the cat ate a turtle, it will slowly make him sick I guess. Keep checking the kitty litter for a shell, if the cat can't poop, then I'd guess he has a major blockage.
