It depends what you want to solve for

multiply both sides by x
a=x^2/b
then by b
ab=x^2
then the square root of both to solve for x
x=sqrt of ab

Multipy both sides by x....first

a=x^2/b

then you multiply times b

ab=x^2

then you square ab

ab(squared)=x

Good question, its a good algabra quiz question

it comes out to be a*b = x^2 (squared) .

Multiply both sides by b so you get ab/x = x

now multiply both sides by x so you get ab = x^2 (squared).

if it's a proportion, then it comes out to be a/b = 1 or a = b

you first multiply both sides by xb to get rid of denominators
xb (a/x) = xb (x/b)
ab = x (x)
or x^2 = ab
x = square root of ab
