Ask the office manager about the dress code (like another poster said), or just ask your supervising attorney. If she's laid back enough to dress as casually as you imply, she won't mind a question like that. If you don't want to ask, just wear some nice pants and a button down shirt or sweater (depending on where you are), but don't bother with a suit, etc. That's still professional by most firms' standards, without looking like your trying to be a hotshot. You are an intern, and they realize that.

First I would dress up, you never know who you will run into and what opportunity is around the corner. Network and get to know other lawyers in your area. Let them see a smart proffessional woman. Poorly dressed lawyers aren't taken seriously.
I have some answers for that. I work as a paralegal in divorce court and I am always going before a judge or on a trial with the main lawyer. First outfit should be a pants suit with a matching skirt and vest if you can find a vest. Color should be navy (best),
black, and gray. Add white blouse that buttons down the front or simple white, cream, pale colored lightweight sweaters. Shoes, You will be on your feet alot so very comfortable shoes, low heels, they very high heels are sexy but will kill your feet. From there you can start adding skirts and pants that match your jackets. Jewerly, small hoop earrings and a necklace of pearls with pearl earrings. These look really good in court and on job interviews. Hair, simple style, not big fluffy hair that is many colors, make-up-do simple natural make-up, easy on the eyes.
Above all remember lawyers like consertative looking quiet and hard working people. Take it from someone who is there.

Best thing to do would be to ask your boss. She might not care or say that interns can dress as they like.
How do the other interns or the others in the organization dress? Lawyers or not? Nice? Business casual? Usually it's best to dress like the others in the organization, especially as an intern, they may require you to do administrative/office work and you may have direct contact with other organizations and what not.
The best way to be taken serious for another internship will be how well you can prove yourself through your work, but how you dress will be the first impression of you, which is also important.

Dress any way that makes you comfortable at work. If you dress formally while everyone else is in casual clothes, chances are you'll feel out of place. If you see that your boss and his employees are dressed casually, you might want to ask your boss what the dress code is and what he/she expects you to wear at work. Every boss has their own standards, so if your boss has inforced a casual dress code, then adjust. If he/she doesn't, then just wear whatever makes you comfortable.

Dress up but dress conservatively. If you want to be taken seriously by others ; you should dress professionally. Here's a good rule of thumb. Never jeans, opened toed shoes, and short skirts. Keep jewelry to a minimum and nothing ostentatious.

****Layers are great, pay attention to your surroundings. What are the other interns wearing?
**** Nice slacks, skirts, blouses will suffice. You can bring a cardigan or a blazer if you want to dress up your look a bit.

Dress like a student with an internship, i.e., no expensive suits or designer handbags.
Lawyers are a hyper-competitive bunch. Are you sure you want to spend your life arguing over who has the biggest brain?

Go to the Office Manager, ask him or her, what the dress code is for you, as an Intern.
